Hello my name is Luke

I have been a Children's Occupational Therapist since 2014. During this time I have supported  children, families and schools with various challenges. I myself experienced many challenges at school which has driven me to provide the best quality care I wish I could of had.

I am proud of the achievements I have made whilst working within the NHS. This include winning a trust award for setting up a therapy showcase event to winning a commissioners choice award for providing quality service to my clients. I have helped develop different pathways within the NHS framework to support Children with difficulties sleeping and for supporting the diagnosis of Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD or Dyspraxia).

Why I become an OT

After struggling at both primary and secondary school (I left with 1 GCSE in History!) I managed to pick up an apprenticeship in welding. After a couple of years I knew this career was not for me and with encouragement from those around me I went back to college. It was at college where I begun to enjoy learning as I had great teachers that made the subjects interesting which I had not experienced before. A teacher one day sat me down and asked if I had ever been screened for Dyspraxia or Dyslexia. Neither of these had ever been mentioned and at the time I had limited knowledge of these conditions. The more I read up about them though the more I begun to relate to. With the right support and guidance I managed to excel in college I got myself in a position to go to University a feet I never felt possible to achieve. I chose to study Occupational Therapy due to its philosophy that engagement in meaningful activities supports a persons wellbeing. I liked that Occupational Therapy was centred around supporting a person achieving what is important or meaningful to them. Over the years I have managed to support children in many different ways and like to think I have made a positive difference.

My special interests

In my spare time I love to travel and explore new places in Kent, England and beyond. I feel truly blessed with some of the experiences I have had such as swimming with dolphins, manatees and stingrays to walking along the ridge of the Grand Canyon and reaching the summit of Mount Snowdon.

When I am not exploring I enjoy going to the gym, running, football and watching movies with my wife. I am also a big Disney fan and feel inspired by the story of Walt Disney and how one man's dream has captured the imagination of so many. As Walt would say "if you can dream it you can do it".
