Children's Occupational Therapy Assessment with Report

Introducing Full Occupational Therapy Assessment with detailed report

Our full Occupational Therapy Assessment offers families and schools a thorough assessment of a child's needs using various standardised and non-standardised tools along with clinical observation. These evidence-based assessments help identify a child's strengths and weaknesses, providing a clear understanding of their development and help guide the therapist and those working with the child in supporting the child effectively.

What is Occupational Therapy?

The purpose of paediatric occupational therapy is to enable children to participate in daily activities (or occupations) to improve health, independence and wellbeing.

Occupations for children or young people may include self-care (dressing, eating a meal, using the toilet, making a simple meal), being productive (participating in activities and routines at nursery or school, or volunteering), and leisure (playing with friends, doing sports or hobbies).

Occupational therapists can help babies, children and young people who may need support and advice if they are not able to do daily occupations due to illness, disability, family circumstances, or as a result of changes as they get older. Occupational therapists will support the child or young person, their family and other relevant people such as teachers, to evaluate challenges and strengths in doing daily activities.

This service usually occurs within the child’s natural environment (home, school or other relevant community settings).

What is included in the Assessment?

Our full OT assessment provides everything you need to help your child overcome their challenges and reach their full potential. With a pre-assessment questionnaire and up to 90 minutes of face to face assessment which can include standardised assessments, our experienced team will generate a detailed report (PDF) that includes the standardise* scores with analytical interpretation, and targeted strategies of support based on your child's strengths and challenges. We'll also provide a 30 minute feedback call to discuss the results and answer any questions you may have.

*Please note that standardised assessments are not always appropriate or essential for every case. When you contact Therapy Bus LTD we will arrange a call to ensure you are offered the correct package using the assessment tools suitable for your child.

What will be covered in the assessment?

The pre-assessment questionnaire includes questions about medical and family history as well as questions regarding the child's ability with activities of daily living. You may also be asked to complete some standardised questionaries depending on the individual needs highlighted during the free discovery call.

A really important question we ask is for you to identify up to three functional goals you would like the child to achieve. This will help our therapist tailor the 1:1 assessment in order to provide targeted support in achieving a positive out come for the child.

Our Assessment may include:

  • A Standardised Assessment of Handwriting using the DASH (Detailed Assessment of Speed of Handwriting)

  • A Standardised Assessment of Fine and Gross Motor Skills using the Movement Assessment Battery for Children

  • Assessment of Functional Skills

  • Analysis Of Sensory Processing Skills using the Winnie Dunn Sensory Profile 2

  • Class Based Observation

*Please note that standardised assessments are not always appropriate or essential for every case. When you contact Therapy Bus LTD we will arrange a call to ensure you are offered the correct package using the assessment tools suitable for your child.

Where will the assessment take place?

As occupational therapists we value the role the environment plays in a persons "occupational performance". Therefore we recommend that the assessment takes place in the environment the child needs support in such as the child's school, nursery or home. We do have access to a clinic space once a week at the Marlowe Innovation Centre in Ramsgate if you would prefer to come us.

What will the report include?

Our detailed report is the perfect tool for parents or schools seeking to gain a better understanding of the child's needs and development. The report includes comprehensive information about their strengths and difficulties, as well as standardised scores (where applicable), and targeted recommendations and strategies.

How much is the assessment and how do you take payment?

The cost of the assessment is £570 for clients within a 5 mile road radius of TN23. Clients outside this radius will be charged an additional 45p per road mile to help with our travel costs. We will happily send you a quote on request. Payments are made by balance transfer and we ask for payments to be made before the assessment takes place.
